Helmet Safety

Motorycycle crash helmets offer great protection, but they do need to conform to the latest safety standards. They must also fit right.

To measure your head, take the tape around just above your ears and make the measurement in the middle of your forehead. Next, try on a helmet, it should touch all parts of your head, not be loose and not create any pressure points causing discomfort.

Do the chin strap up and then move the helmet from side to side. The crash helmet should not move and keep pressing up against your cheeks for a full face model. Next, try to move the helmet from front to back. Again, it should keep your head inside with out moving. If there is any slippage, then you probably do not have the right size helmet. Ask for a different size to try.

Finally, check that you can not get the helmet off. Ask someone to push from behind and try to roll the helmet off to the front by applying force from the underside of the back of the helmet. If it comes off, then you can be sure it will come off in a motocycle accident. Try another helmet.
