Accessories ~ Helmet Cleaning

Keeping your crash helmet clean not only makes it look nice but more importantly, help it to function better. Whilst cleaning your helmet, you should look for any worn parts and replace as required.

When cleaning your helmet, use hot water and a mild soap, strong detergents may damage your helmet's coating, including graphics. You can of course buy specific helmet cleaning products from reliable motorcycle accessory shops. There are a variety of wipes and polishes available to keep your helmet looking good.

The obvious part to take extra of whilst cleaning is you visor. If it is clearly worn then you should consider replacing it. Cleaning the bugs and grime off the outside is just the start. To do this, lay a piece of kitchen towel that has been under the hot water tap. This should make getting the bugs off a lot easier. After this, you should consider applying anti-mist to the inside and then something like rain-ex to the outside. Or you can buy specific products for doing this.

Trying to keep good vision is not particularly easy, but it will make your riding experience all the more better for being able to see with ease.

Cleaning your helmet will also give you the opportunity to check it for any damage. It is recommended that a damaged helmet be replaced as soon as possible. Remember that it is your life it is trying to protect.

Be careful where you keep you helmet and what you keep in it. Ideally, you should consider cleaning your helmet and then storing indoors in a helmet bag. You should be careful not to keep it near petrol or solvents. Also, you should not store your gloves in the helmet as the velcro can attach itself to the helmet lining and cause damage when you remove them. If you have leather gloves, storing them in the helmet my encourage them to go moldy if you do not use them very often.
